We realise the stress of traveling to the UK with your pet and getting to the border with the correct documentation. This area provides as much information as possible to help you understand what documentation you need to bring your dog or cat to the UK from France.
Dog and Cat Vaccination Requirements
Regardless of the form of documentation, all pets traveling to the UK must have
- A microchip inserted prior to or on the same day of its rabies vaccination
- Current rabies vaccination
- Dogs only need a tapeworm treatment no sooner than 24 hours and no later than 5 days
Pet documentation
After BREXIT, for your pet to travel to the UK it needs to have either:
- A UK Animal Health Certificate or
- EU issued pet passport
EU (British) issued pet passport are no longer accepted and obsolete.
GB Animal Health Certificates can be filled in by any vet globally no sooner than 10 days before you travel. Depending on where your vet is located determines which fields they need to fill out. It is valid for 4 months of travel within the EU or returning to the UK.
An EU (non-British) issued pet passport
EU issued pet passports can be obtained in any EU country.
For an EU (non-British) issued pet passport, only vets in the EU can update it. If a British vet updated your pet’s passport after 1 January 2021, it is no longer valid and your pet cannot travel to the UK on it. www.gov.uk/bring-pet-to-great-britain/
Tapeworm treatment applies to dogs only, not cats when bringing your them to the UK from France!
